Nevertheless, brothers, I call on you in the name of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah to agree, all of you, in what you say, and not to let yourselves remain split into factions but be restored to having a common mind and a common purpose.1 Corinthians 1:10 CJB
A marriage may fall apart when a couple does not have one common mind and purpose:
- on how to respect a relationship,
- on how to bring up the children,
- on how to run the family,
- on how to handle the finances, and
- most importantly on how to practice the faith in God.
When a couple acknowledges the importance of God in the family and when a couple has one mind and purpose toward God — everything is held steadily and securely.
There are many times in my life when everything seems to be falling apart: marriage, finances, health, peace in the family.
What keeps my wife and I together is the constant reminder that when we have problems in the family or between us — we always make it a point to turn to God with utmost honesty and surrender.
One mind and purpose in God has been our cornerstone in the family. My marriage is not perfect; and my family is not the ideal perhaps; However, I am very fulfilled and could not trade it for anything else.
In marriage, it is not just a relationship between husband and wife. It is a relationship between husband and wife, and the couple’s relationship to God.
Father in Heaven,
I thank you for my partner in life, my spouse. I thank you for my children. I thank you for my big family: my parents, siblings, in-laws, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren.
Father, remind us to always have one common mind and one common purpose. That is to worship you alone and to love you above all.
Bless families and marriages, Father, that they may find the peace, the joy, and the fulfillment of what you’ve given them.
Bless families, oh Father, that they may have you as the center and purpose of their existtence.
Bless marriages, oh Father, that they may acknowledge your importance in keeping a couple happily together.
This we ask through Jesus, our messiah. Amen.
