7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.
In Joshua 1:9, God commanded us to be strong and courageous. He told us not to fear and not to be dismayed. Yet in this passage, we are advised to fear the Lord, as it is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord is different from the fear in Joshua 1:9. If God is with us, who can be against us (to defeat us). For our strength lies in YHWH our God.
God has promised blessings and protection to those who follow His commands — not because He needs it. But because He knows we need these commands and instructions to fight against the deceptions of the enemy.
There is only one thing we should fear, and that is the fear of the Lord. For without Him, we are nothing.
