Passage 33: Seek Good, Not Evil

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so YHWH, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

AMOC (AMOS) 5:14 [Et Cepher]

Reflection

Every day, we make decisions in life. They can be small or big decisions: from decisions like what to eat? what to wear? and what time to sleep to decisions like shall I break up with my spouse? shall I resign from work? and so on.

Regardless of what they are, our decisions can affect ourselves and our love ones in varying degrees.

The Bible passage reminds us to seek good, and not evil. It reminds us to take into consideration the GOOD.

What is good?

People have different interpretations of what good is. What might be good for me, might not be good for you or for the others.

Let us see what the Bible says about what good is:

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

Isaiah 5:20 ESV

And here is a much clearer passage of what is good:

And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.”

Matthew 19:17

What commandments is Matthew 19:17 talking about?

Who is this only one who is good?

Questions, you and I need to answer honestly in our hearts.

Seek good that you may live; seek God that you may live.

Our Challenge for the Week

Let us try to seek good in every decision we make.

Let us try to seek God when we decide.

Prayer

Father in Heaven,

You know our hearts; and we cannot hide our real intentions from you.

I pray that you may purify our intentions to seek you first, my God, in every decision I have to make.

I pray that you may give us the grace to seek what is good in everything.

I pray that you may grant me the true meaning of goodness that I may truly live.

This we ask through Jesus, our messiah. Amen.
