God has only one name, and the rest are God’s titles. God’s name is YHWH. According to 6 Hebrew manuscripts found, YHWH is said to be pronounced as YeHoWaH or YeHoVaH.
The name of God is often replaced with the words: Lord, Adonai, God, or Hashem in modern Hebrew scriptures and texts. YHWH’s name is found in the scriptures nearly 7,000 times. And these are the number of times bible translators substituted God’s name into generic titles. YHWH is the 7th most commonly used word in the Hebrew scriptures.
Though YHWH commanded us not to use His name in vain; YHWH does not forbid us to praise Him using his name, YHWH. In many instances, the Bible tells us that the people of God had been calling for His name; and YHWH answered them.
I am YeHoWaH, that is My Name.
I will not give My glory to another
or My praise to idols.
Therefore My people shall know My name; Therefore they shall know in that day That I am He who speaks: `Behold, it is I.’
14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM,” and he said, “You shall tell the children of Israel this: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 15 God said moreover to Moses, “You shall tell the children of Israel this, ‘YHWH, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations. 16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and tell them, ‘YHWH, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, “I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt; 17 and I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey.”’ 18 They will listen to your voice, and you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt, and you shall tell him, ‘YHWH, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to YHWH, our God.’ 19 I know that the king of Egypt won’t give you permission to go, no, not by a mighty hand. 20 I will reach out my hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders which I will do among them, and after that he will let you go. 21 I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, and it will happen that when you go, you shall not go empty-handed.
Give thanks to YHWH! Call on his name!
Make his doings known among the peoples.
2 Sing to him, sing praises to him!
Tell of all his marvelous works.
3 Glory in his holy name.
Let the heart of those who seek YHWH rejoice.
I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of YHWH.
I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of YHWH.
“Awake, sword, against my shepherd,
and against the man who is close to me,” says YHWH of Armies.
“Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered;
and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
8 It shall happen that in all the land,” says YHWH,
“two parts in it will be cut off and die;
but the third will be left in it.
9 I will bring the third part into the fire,
and will refine them as silver is refined,
and will test them like gold is tested.
They will call on my name, and I will hear them.
I will say, ‘It is my people;’
and they will say, ‘YHWH is my God.’”
Give ear, you heavens, and I will speak.
Let the earth hear the words of my mouth.
2 My doctrine will drop as the rain.
My speech will condense as the dew,
as the misty rain on the tender grass,
as the showers on the herb.
3 For I will proclaim YHWH’s name.
Ascribe greatness to our God!
